Education Committee

 

Selected from among the departmental representatives within the Faculty of Dentistry, Education Committee is appointed by the Dean upon the recommendation of the Head of the Academic Coordination Unit.

It consists of up to ten members, selected with a balanced distribution based on the roles of faculty members in the educational programme who represent the vertical corridors. The members are appointed by the Dean at least for one year. The Chair and the Vice-Chair are elected by the Committee from among its members, excluding the ordinary members, for a term of one year. Upon the expiration of the Chair’ term of office, the Vice-Chair takes the Chair’s place.

The Committee is responsible for evaluating, making suggestions about, and monitoring the undergraduate the faculty’s dental education programme and its implementation. To this end, it carries out its activities, and submits its proposals and reports to the Academic Coordination Unit.

As parts of its roles and responsibilities with the aim of evaluating the efficiency of educational programme based on the vertical and lateral integration, and ensuring the improvements, the Education Committee:

  1. Defines the methods and tools suitable for evaluating the educational programme, and amends them when necessary.
  2. Organises the reconstruction of education in the Faculty according to the legislation and international scientific education principles, and conducts curriculum improvement studies.
  3. Exchanges ideas about the objectives, planning, implementation, and improvement of the dental education at the faculty, and accordingly, prepares reports and recommendations.
  4. Evaluates and monitors the implementation of the educational programme.
  5. Offers and monitors adjustments necessary for the implementation of the educational programme.
  6. Makes preparations regarding the structuring and renewal in education and training.
  7. Ensures the preparation of curriculum forms and syllabus forms.
  8. Carries out necessary works to align the educational programme with the National Core Educational Programme, other national regulations, and international developments, and monitors its compliance.
  9. Ensures that the positive aspects identified during the self-evaluation in the accreditation process are maintained, and offers recommendations and monitors the implementation of the adjustments in areas identified as lacking or in need of improvement.

 

The Committee holds regular meetings every two months in line with its agenda. The Committee determines the schedule and urgencies for evaluating all the elements of the education programme in terms of content and practice. It overviews them and collaborates with relevant units when necessary, defines the methods, makes suggestions to enable these methods to be implemented, and analyses the evaluation results. It also includes the topics suggested by the Academic Coordination Unit for further study in the programme. Additionally, the committee submits the results of the work in a report to the Academic Coordination Unit.
