Department of Orthodontics

Orthodontics can shortly be described as one of the special branches of dentistry which prevents disorders related to dental and maxillofacial areas, stops the progress of and treats existing disorders, and in the meantime, aims for good aesthetics and function (biting, chewing, speaking, and smiling). Treatment methods can be divided into two broad categories:

Moveable Orthodontic Treatment is the treatment method where various moveable orthodontic appliances are used to prevent problems that may arise out of bad habits, thumb sucking or abnormal swallowing, and make space for permanent teeth, or correct and reverse simple dental malocclusions. This treatment is administered to children aged 8 to 11 going through the period of mixed dentition.

Immoveable Orthodontic Treatment is applied using brackets fixed on the teeth which cannot be removed during the treatment, together with the wires going through these brackets. Immoveable Orthodontic Treatment can be administered to any individual of any age with healthy teeth and gums. In order to preserve and maintain the results of the treatment, long-term protection with various retainers and/or invisible wires is needed.
